Location: Tarbet, Loch Lomond
Attendees: 19
This week we took the plunge and leapt into Loch Lomond. Complete with wet suits, buoyancy aids, and our own qualified lifeguard, we tried our hand at swimming in open water.
Tarbet Pier provided the platform for our activity and the scouts needed very litte persuasion to step off into the cold water. Very refreshing. We could not have conducted the activity without the generous help of Ardmay Outdoor Centre and the kind use of their wet suits.
We had a large number of parents in attendance, cooking the BBQ,preparing drinks, and offering words of encouragement from their warm, dry position on the lochside.
The scouts had a great time. It was exciting and challenging. We tried some swimming in open water, had a few races, and jumped from the side of the pier. We rounded off the the evening with burgers and sausages, and made a rapid exit when the midges showed up !
The activity had a smalll element of risk attached, but the events were well supervised and controlled, with relevant safety measures in place.
